Shoplifters
Osamu and his family live in poverty in Tokyo. Trying to make ends meet, he and his son shoplift. They live in a humble abode on the periphery, forming with the other members of the household a weird clan of petty criminals. One day, Osamu discovers a little homeless girl, playing alone in frost weather on a balcony. After taking her home, he informally adopts the abandoned child. Osamu’s deed results in revealing the mystery within the shoplifters’ clan and casts doubt on the traditional notion of family. Kore-eda’s Shoplifters is a sensitive, multi-layered, refined drama about unconditional love and the dignity of the poor.

Při vystoupení skupiny na prodejní slavnosti je ubodána hudebnice Magda. Situace na místě činu je komplikovaná − na jednu stranu otevřený areál, na druhou stranu část, která je přístupná jen spolupracovníkům skupiny. Tato skutečnost velmi omezí okruh možných pachatelů. Současně záhadným způsobem zmizí vražedná zbraň. Vyšetřování se tak soustředí na hudebnice a na expartnera oběti. Kriminalisté odkrývají stále další tajemství. Za fasádou kapely, která se tváří jako rodina, zuří konflikty o peníze, licence, uměleckou svobodu a v neposlední řadě o péči o Magdino dítě. Aby byl spor o péči vyřešen v její prospěch, rozhodla se odejít z kapely. Ukazuje se, že se někdo snažil tomu všemi prostředky zabránit….
