Jessica přijela do Savannah, aby pomohla kamarádovi s jeho hrou a náhle obdrží překvapivou nabídku k sňatku. Ještě překvapenější je však z toho, jak vykresluje rodinu.Jessica navštíví svého přítele a kolegu spisovatele, dramatika Eugena McClendena. Samozřejmě ji zajímá, jestli má její návštěva zvláštní důvod, a je přímo šokována, když dostává nabídku k sňatku. Jednalo by se však o pohodlné manželství pouze na šest měsíců, protože přibližně tolik mu zbývá života. Tohle vše by navíc sloužilo jen na ochranu jeho majetku před chamtivými příbuznými. Uprostřed noci se však ozývá výstřel a McClenden je přistižen u postele zavražděného, vlastního právníka Jonathana Keelera, se zbraní v ruce. Jessica tak musí přichystat jednu ze svých pověstných pastiček, aby vraha dopadla.(Radek273)
