Když jeden z bývalých studentů Jessiky přináší na Broadway hru založenou na jejím románu, ocitá se uprostřed války mezi dvěma zdejšími kritiky.Jessica se v New Yorku zúčastní premiéry hry Mainly Murder, která je založena na jednom z jejích románů. Všichni, včetně mladého dramatika Waltera Knapfa, jsou nervózní, co budou hře říkat hlavní kritici. Jeden z nich, Elliot Easterbrook, bývá obzvláště ošklivý a hnusný a jeho recenze zničující. Bohužel ani tentokrát není jiný. K nemalé radosti všech však recenzent pro Chronicle Danny O'Mara, považovaný za vůbec nejdůležitějšího, je velmi pozitivní a celou hru pochválí. Zároveň také ve svém sloupku urážlivě zmiňuje Easterbrooka. Když je pak O'Mara nalezen zavražděný a Easterbrook nad ním přistižen se zbraní v ruce, policie si myslí, že mohou uzavřít případ. Překvapivě však pitva určuje, že O'Mara leží mrtvý již několik hodin.(Radek273)
